Luka Megurine is the third Vocaloid in Crypton's character series. Her character details were released on the 5th of January 2009. She came in to stores on January 30th, 2009. Unlike the previous Vocaloids, Luka can sing in both Japanese and English. The name "Megurine" can be read in Japanese as the "sound that travels (the whole wide world)," and the name Luka invokes the homonymous Japanese words of "nagare" (flowing) and "ka" (song) or "kaori" (scent). Yuu Asakawa provides Luka's 'cool, yet husky feminine voice'. The manga artist Kei, who illustrated Miku, Rin, and Len, also designed her mascot. However, unlike previous mascots in the series, her costume is not based on a school uniform. Her character item is either a whip or frozen tuna. She is 20 and weighs 45kg (99 pounds). Her height is 162cm (5 feet, 4 inches). Her genres are Latin jazz to ethno-pop/house to electronica dance, her tempos are 65 to 145 BPM are her singing range is D3 to D5.
